Immortelle Series

This vase is fired in the gas reduction kiln at BRICK and is made of grolleg porcelain. It has a little blushing on one side as pictured here and the other side is all white porcelain. The blushing is very subtle and is a nuance of the reduction kiln environment where it may have been near another work that was glazed with copper.

Artist Statement

I often work in porcelain and apply organic decoration to its surface. I combine references of floral patterns, and historical ceramic objects to create both sculptural and functional ceramics. This series is inspired by immortelles — antique porcelain wreaths that are symbols of enduring
remembrance.
I am also inspired by the memory of my grandmother’s home which was brimming with faux florals and wreaths, ornately patterned flocked wallpaper, and dotted with plastic topiary bushes. This elaborately embellished environment has and will continue to be a source of inspiration for my work.
