Immortelle Series

This vase was fired in the gas kiln at BRICK. It has a small spot of blushing on the opposite side that is very subtle. The piece is made of grolleg porcelain.

Artist Statement

I often work in porcelain and apply organic decoration to its surface. I combine references of floral patterns, and historical ceramic objects to create both sculptural and functional ceramics. This series is inspired by immortelles — antique porcelain wreaths that are symbols of enduring
remembrance.
I am also inspired by the memory of my grandmother’s home which was brimming with faux florals and wreaths, ornately patterned flocked wallpaper, and dotted with plastic topiary bushes. This elaborately embellished environment has and will continue to be a source of inspiration for my work.
